Synopsis

Dominic Regenon—the first dragon slayer in a thousand years, and the hero who brought an end to the war.Yet the king, wary of his influence, offers him no reward. Instead, he appoints Dominic as the personal guard of his concubine, Adelheid. But Adelheid is a woman mired in scandal.Once a princess of a fallen kingdom, she now lives as the concubine of the very king who destroyed her homeland. And every knight who served as her guard has been punished for falling in love with her.In her values, her convictions, and everything she stands for, she is Dominic’s opposite.Yet as their encounters in the library grow more frequent, his world begins to unravel. What once seemed certain blurs, and everything he thought he understood slips beyond his grasp.“Just because you don’t know something happens doesn’t mean it never does.”Once, in this very place, he had thought of her quite differently.A distasteful, vulgar woman with neither pride nor honor. A woman unworthy of love.Yet a young man in love could be more fickle than any beast. Those thoughts were now worth less than a broken flower stem. She was a woman for whom even all the precious things in the world would never be enough.
